Opportunity overview
This community-volunteer assignment supports the response to an Ebola outbreak in Ituri Province. Reliable information, trust and local participation are essential during an outbreak, while rumours, stigma and resistance can weaken public-health measures. UNDP is supporting government and community partners with risk communication, social mobilization and feedback mechanisms.
Four volunteers will be based in Bunia. They will help communities understand prevention messages, share concerns with response teams and participate in locally led engagement activities. Because this is a community assignment, the listing states that only candidates based in Bunia will be considered.
What you will work on
- Share clear Ebola-prevention messages in French, Kiswahili and appropriate local languages.
- Identify and report rumours, concerns, perceptions and obstacles affecting prevention or care-seeking.
- Mobilize community, religious, women’s and youth leaders for dialogues, meetings and awareness sessions.
- Support outreach in homes, markets, schools, places of worship and other community spaces.
- Collect community feedback, record activity data, report urgent information and document useful local practices.
Who should consider applying
- Candidates must be nationals, legal residents or recognized refugees in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and should be based in Bunia.
- Secondary education is required; the listing highlights around one year of relevant community experience while also noting that no prior general experience is mandatory.
- Fluent French and Kiswahili are required.
- Community mobilization, public communication, local organizational work and knowledge of Ituri’s social context are strong advantages.
