Opportunity overview
Goodness and Mercy Missions is seeking eight Online Volunteers to strengthen the evidence base for livelihood and inclusive-growth programming in Cameroon’s North West Region. Rural households in the area depend heavily on small farming, trade, food processing, transport and artisanal work, while conflict, weak market access and limited financial services constrain income and resilience.
The assignment is divided into four research themes: market access and value chains, financial inclusion and digital tools, appropriate technology and resource efficiency, and the economic participation of women and young people. Each volunteer will produce an individual English research paper or literature review that can guide locally owned programme design.
What you will work on
- Review credible academic, UN, government and development sources related to one assigned livelihoods theme.
- Assess which models have worked in low-resource, rural or crisis-affected settings and explain the conditions for success.
- Connect international evidence to the realities of the Boyo Division and suggest practical implications for programming.
- Submit an outline, working bibliography, complete draft and revised final paper according to the assignment milestones.
- Produce a well-referenced English deliverable of approximately 3,000–5,000 words and communicate regularly with the host organization.
Who should consider applying
- A completed or in-progress bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the selected research theme; postgraduate study is an asset.
- Academic or professional research experience through coursework, a thesis, internships, independent study or applied analysis.
- Ability to conduct structured desk research, assess source quality and use a consistent academic referencing system.
- Strong written English, reliable internet access, virtual-collaboration skills and sensitivity to rural and crisis-affected contexts.
