Opportunity overview
UNICEF Madagascar is recruiting a Nutrition Specialist to support food systems that improve young children’s diets. Although Madagascar has reduced childhood stunting, malnutrition and severe child food poverty remain major development challenges. The assignment will place particular emphasis on UNICEF’s First Foods Africa initiative.
The volunteer will work with government, implementation partners and private-sector actors to improve programme delivery, technical capacity and the regulatory environment for safe, nutritious and affordable foods for children.
What you will work on
- Support planning, coordination and delivery of nutrition-sensitive food-system interventions, including expansion of First Foods activities.
- Provide technical support to government, partners and private-sector stakeholders working on production, processing and distribution.
- Contribute to regulatory work involving food labelling, marketing standards, quality assurance and child-focused nutrition objectives.
- Use nutrition and food-system data to support evidence-based decisions and programme improvement.
- Promote multisectoral collaboration and help align work with national nutrition strategies and relevant global frameworks.
Who should consider applying
- A master’s degree in nutrition, public health, global or international health and nutrition, health science, agronomy, food science, education or a related field.
- At least three years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of nutrition-sensitive food systems, food fortification, regulation, quality assurance and multisectoral programming.
- Fluent French is required; working knowledge of English is desirable.
